Over the Weekend

Today we got our eggs for our Egg Baby Project.
Make sure you read the directions and expectations   - especially the point system on the 2nd page (see below).
We also went over Attachment and Parenting Style section sin the PowerPoint.

For homework, you are to:
1) Read the article "Raising Successful Children" and "The Rise of American Authoritarian"
2) Complete the parenting style handout
3) Complete Days 1, 2, and 3 in your baby book.  Some area will not be able to be completed because we have not gone over Kohlberg or Erikson, but do the best you can.
4) Make sure you have filled out the appropriate areas in our Developmental Unit PowerPoint guide

Make sure you have completed the Piaget Handout.

If you were not in class on Friday and did not receive an egg, please read the Egg Baby Project and obtain your baby from your family's refrigerator. It is up to you if your egg will be hard-boiled or not.

Expectations for the Egg Baby Project

Responsibility
  • You are responsible for the well-being of your egg at all times. This means, among other things, protecting them from harm and harmful environments.
  • If your egg cracks or there is other damage to the egg, you must report it
  • An incident report must be filed including the following information:
      • Name of parent/name of egg
      • Date of incident
      • Condition of egg and circumstances surrounding the incident
  • While it is understandable that you won’t be able to “parent” your egg at all times, it is expected that you make a concerted effort to spend as much time as possible with your egg. Therefore, you may not have other people egg-sit for more than 4 hours at a time. If you are at work, an activity, etc… you are expected to make arrangements to keep your egg with you.

Point Breakdown
  • Decoration of egg (face only):                        5
  • Egg Carrier:                                     5
  • Parent Signature acknowledging their notification of this project:         5
  • Egg attendance in class/morning check-in:                     15
  • Crack or other damage to the egg caused by you and reported:         -3
  • Crack or other damage to the egg caused by someone else and reported: -2
  • Crack or damage to the egg that goes unreported:                 -6
  • Reports of ill-care that do not result in bodily harm:                -1
  • Leaving egg alone at any point:                        -5

On the Due Date, you will turn in the following items,
  1. The attendance signature sheet        (3pts for each day = 21)
  2. Your Baby Book                (7pts each day = 49 )
  3. Your response essay                (20 pts)

Any loss of points will then be deducted. The total points = 90 (A-) and that is because doing the minimum is really only A- parenting. You will be awarded 10 points for going above and beyond (with proof of a photo or note from parent). This included but is not limited to:
  • Reading books to your egg
  • Having play dates
  • Making a “lullaby” mix
  • Showing off a new crib
  • Take your egg to the park/playground
  • Feed your egg
  • Teach your egg how to drive
  • Egg’s First Pet!

long weekend homework

We are going to be starting the Development Unit. So to prepare you for learning all about stages of life, the different theories, we are going to do some investigation.

Identity Crisis in Song Project

Find a song that demonstrate some of the emotions and conflicts that occur during one's lifetime (teen angst, getting older, becoming a parent/widow, leaving home)

Explain what the song means to you and why you chose it.

Create a list of emotions/conflicts/experiences reflected in the song, (such as apathy, self-doubt, self-confidence…). Might be helpful to bring lyrics.

for Friday 3/18

We finished our Brain Projects and have spent a couple of days on consciousness.

We are going to review how the drugs have an effect on our consciousness by disrupting the natural action of the neurotransmitters at the synapse, and each drug has a different way of disrupting the synapse.

For Friday, please do the following tasks
1) Print out the "Mouse Party" handout - found HERE and fill in in!
2) Go through the "Drugs and Consciousness" PowerPoint (HERE)
2) Peruse the Mouse Party website (HERE) - go through each mouse and see how its brain is affected by its drug of choice.
3) Use this interactive slide show to learn why monkeys self-administered cocaine HERE
3) You may also use the textbook pages 159-165

For Friday

I have moved up the writing reflection assignment to be due on Friday (2/5) and that way you will have no homework over the weekend!

For the Writing Reflection, I would like you to:
Write one page on which psychological approach (humanistic, cognitive, behavioral, biological, socio-cultural, evolutionary, psychoanalytic) you feel explains human behavior the best? Which would you use as a psychologist with your client? Why?

Friday, January 29, 2016

Most Eminent Psychologist assignment

When completing (d) where you are to "write a question about your psychologist's contribution to psychology," I want you to think about a broad question that would reflect on what you are going to present to the class. In other words, think about a question (and answer) that you would write about your psychologist for others to answer.
